Architektentreffen (Architects’ Meeting), 2007
Nun Bautrupp (Now Construction Crew) 2007
Abriss. Ein neuer Aufbruch (Demolition. A New Departure), 2009
The campaign was kicked off with two images by Erwin Wurm, which depict the architects Heinz Neumann and Laurids Ortner respectively the project developer Thomas Jakoubek in odd poses against the backdrop of the building site slated for demolition. Erwin Wurm arranged the participants in unusual, unstable constellations, that like construction itself require a high degree of cooperation and empathy. In June 2009, Erwin Wurm completed his series for WIEN MITTE with an image in which Austrian actor Karl Merkatz rises naked from a barrel found on the construction site.
For sculptor Erwin Wurm (* 1954), who has been continuously developing and expanding his specific sculptural concept for more than twenty years, the primary focus lies not on the object itself, but on the interaction between object and subject. Based on a set of instructions, his One Minute Sculptures, in which he often places himself or the performers in absurd situations, can be captured photographically as “solidified time” and reproduced individually.
